Campaign Life Coalition brought Life Chain to Canada from the United States in 1991, although it was preceded by a test run of “Project Life” in Toronto in 1990.

The first Canadian city to reportedly hold a Life Chain was Brantford, ON, in April of 1991. Other cities followed suit on various dates in the Spring of 1991. Most notably Vancouver saw 10,000 pro-lifers demonstrate on Mother’s Day.

In the Fall, on October 6, 1991, Life Chain became a truly nationwide event. Over 70,000 Canadians, across 60 different cities and all 10 provinces, took part, in conjunction with hundreds of thousands of American pro-lifers.

The following year, 1992, over 1 million pro-lifers participated in Life Chain across North America.
A powerful public witness was ignited that has endured the test of years, saved lives, and changed hearts.
Today, Life Chain is held in over 350 locations in Canada, in the territories and every province. Over 15,000 Canadians participate annually.
While local right-to-life groups, churches, and dedicated individuals are responsible for much of the organizing, Campaign Life Coalition’s Life Chain Canada committee continues to help coordinate this event.
